1. THE APOSTASY OF SATAN
Introduction
Where did sin originate? Could it have been prevented? Why does sin exist today?
The Bible provides clear answers to these questions.
1.1 Origin of Satan
1. Did God create the devil?
There is no Scripture indicating that God created a devil. Everything God created was good and perfect.
2. Was Lucifer originally perfect?
“Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.” — Ezekiel 28:15
Lucifer was created perfect but later developed sin.
1.2 Lucifer’s Position
3. What was Lucifer’s position before sin?
“Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth.” — Ezekiel 28:14
Lucifer was a covering cherub, a high-ranking angel close to God’s throne.
1.3 Origin of Sin in Heaven
4. How did Lucifer become Satan?
“Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty…” — Ezekiel 28:17
“I will ascend into heaven… I will be like the most High.” — Isaiah 14:12–14
Lucifer’s pride led to rebellion against God.
1.4 War in Heaven
5. What resulted from Lucifer’s rebellion?
“There was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon…” — Revelation 12:7
6. What was the outcome?
“The great dragon was cast out… that old serpent called the Devil and Satan.” — Revelation 12:8–9
Satan and his angels were expelled from heaven.
Jesus confirmed this event:
“I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.” — Luke 10:18
1.5 Satan’s Activity on Earth
7. Where is Satan now?
“Woe to the inhabitants of the earth… for the devil is come down unto you.” — Revelation 12:12
8. What is Satan doing?
“Your adversary the devil… walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” — 1 Peter 5:8
Conclusion (Section 1)
The conflict between Christ and Satan continues on earth. Satan targets those who keep God’s commandments (Revelation 12:17).
Since Satan is a liar and murderer (John 8:44), his influence must be resisted. Christ’s command remains:
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” — John 14:15
